"ほねのうずめ方" (How to Bury Bones) is IZUMI's most introspective and experimental work to date. Recorded during a period of personal reflection, this album explores themes of memory, loss, and renewal through minimalist compositions that blur the line between silence and sound.
The album's title track, a 12-minute meditation on impermanence, features field recordings from a cemetery in Kyoto layered beneath sparse piano notes and distant string arrangements. This piece sets the contemplative tone for the entire album, inviting listeners into a space of quiet contemplation.
Working with a reduced palette of instruments - primarily piano, strings, and environmental sounds - IZUMI creates vast emotional landscapes with minimal means. The result is her most personal and challenging work, requiring patience and openness from the listener but rewarding deep engagement with profound beauty.
The album was recorded over the course of a full year, with sessions taking place in different seasons to capture the changing moods and atmospheres that inform each composition. This temporal approach to recording gives the album a living, breathing quality that changes with each listen.
